Bonn agreement causes mixed emotions
As a landholder who has over a million native trees growing over my 36,000
acre property, I have mixed emotions over the Bonn agreement on Greenhouse
While I would like to see a fairly stable global environment, and a fair
carbon trading scheme a number of questions still remain.
Will native forests on properties be eligible for carbon credits?
How will countries be enforced to keep their emissions targets?
Will we have an international tree police force?
What if all this effort does nothing to prevent global warming?
Scientists from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
(IPCC) have predicted a rise in temperature of between 1.5 degrees and 2.5
degrees Celcius in the next 100 years
Tom Wigley, one of the IPCC`s most prolific authors said If all of the
nations of the world do what they said they would at Kyoto, the earth's
temperature in 2050 will be 0.07°C cooler than it would be if we had done
nothing. And by the year 2100? A grand total of 0.14°C.
